Professor Nguyen Minh Thuyet, editor-in-chief of first grade Vietnamese textbooks of the Kite set, stated that the group of authors will evaluate the results of the implementation, absorb the opinions of the teachers, and the society will adjust to be each more suitable. what.
“We give priority to educational goals”
As editor-in-chief of the Grade 1 Vietnamese Textbook, Canh Dieu was put, faced with the different opinions of the public opinion about the book, even saying that the book is “anti-educational”, how did you receive those comments?
– I calm down to recognize good and evil and solve problems. All publishers are creating content based on the key objectives of the educational program. Especially with first grade, the goal to be achieved is to train and develop the qualities and abilities of the students.
Competences are classified into two categories: general competencies (autonomy, cooperation, creativity) and specific competences (specific to each subject). For Vietnamese subjects, it is linguistic competence (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and literary ability (initially perceived by literature).
Certainly, a non-educational book cannot be used, so all the authors when compiling the book put the educational objective first.
As for the comments that the teacher’s grade 1 Vietnamese textbook teaches children to cheat, there are many local words, not suitable for children, Teacher Any comments on this fuss?
– Specific discussion of the Vietnamese textbook of the Kite series, there are 3 main stories to which readers respond: Reading exercise “Two horses” (adapted from the story “The stallion and the mare” by Lev Tolstoy); reading exercise “Crabs, storks and fish” (Vietnamese folk tales) and reading exercise “Go and chickens” (adapted from La Fontaine’s story “See and ants”).
Before discussing the content, I must confirm that Lev Tolstoy and La Fontaine are two great cultural writers, they never write non-educational stories. Therefore, the editors fully respect the plot, only changing the character’s name to suit the child’s lesson and Vietnamese culture.
For example, in the story “Two Horses”, the authors have changed “stallion” for “purple horse, black horse”, because until that week the students had not learned the rhymes of “uc”, “ai” and Nor did they want the story was deduced from “male, female” sexism. The story is divided into 2 parts, with clear notes and is taught together.
Or the story “ticks and chickens”, originally “ticks and ants”, when the cicadas come asking for alms, the ant asks: “Why don’t you dance and sing?” This detail is quite “poignant” for the artist world, so I changed it to “I will be able to dance and work hard, I will not worry” to be more appropriate.
In Kite’s first grade Vietnamese textbook, the authors have carefully studied and considered it when compiling it. In particular, the content of the book also has many good articles, such as education on sovereignty over the islands. Therefore, it cannot be said that the content of the book is counter-educational.
In the coming time, the group of authors will evaluate the results of the implementation, will absorb the opinions of teachers and society to adjust so that they are more and more appropriate.
“I understand first graders”
Many readers believe that for first graders, the lessons should not be divided into many different parts, because children’s thinking is only suitable for short and simple content. What is your opinion of the teacher?
– I can say that I understand first graders better than those who make the above statements. The lessons are divided into two parts to match the duration of the program.
Since 1st graders only have 35-70 minutes to read a reading exercise, the lesson may not be too long, but too short, it doesn’t finish the story. So, we have clearly divided the content and numbered 1, 2 corresponding to part 1, part 2 of the story and taught together.
Furthermore, the students are not self-taught but with the guidance of their teachers. Teachers can also build excitement for children by suggesting that if we want to see the end of the story, we wait for part 2.
There is an opinion that Vietnam has a huge treasure trove of popular songs and proverbs full of human meaning, that’s why the writer did not include it in the curriculum, but adapted many foreign stories, the teacher?
In fact, in 2 parts, volume 1, volume 2 of the Vietnamese textbook, 1 set of kites, there are hundreds of Vietnamese stories, including: Dong Dao, folk tales, quizzes and poems, writers’ literature. famous poems like Pham Ho, Vo Quang, Phan Thi Thanh Nhan, Tran Dang Khoa, Mai Van Hai …
Also, in the first grade program, it is not possible to teach many songs and sayings, because these are the cultural crystallization of the nation, with a very deep meaning, that first graders will not be able to fully understand. In particular, children who have not learned all the words and rhymes will not be able to read songs and proverbs.
Faced with the controversy over the content of Vietnamese textbooks today, what advice do you give parents about psychological preparation and the best teaching method?
– First of all, parents should regularly discuss with their child’s teacher to understand the child’s learning situation. From there, learn and ask teachers for advice on how to use textbooks, how to best teach children.
Next, parents should read and study the content of the book and ask the teacher directly to avoid doubting a wrong opinion.
Lastly, parents should help teachers teach their children by checking their work regularly. However, do not pressure your child, let him learn and play comfortably.
So for teachers, given the current mixed flows of public opinion, what advice does the teacher have to teach firmly?
In fact, I have met with many professors, most of them are not interested but also some are hesitant because of public opinion.
So I think that teachers who have had professional experience, have they led generations of first graders to actively compare new books with advantages over old books or not? Is there good skill development for children? The teachers will definitely have the answer for me.
Also, all the teachers have been well trained, so be firm to teach, don’t panic. In particular, be active, creative, and flexible in teaching to help children absorb in the best way.
Thank you teacher for sharing the above!
