HanoiFor the last two weeks, every day, the Central Hospital of Dermatology received more than 100 patients with tricavity contact dermatitis.
Dr. Quach Thi Ha Giang, Deputy Director of the Medical Examination Department at Central Hospital of Dermatology, identified a marked increase in the number of patients. They usually come to the clinic 3-4 days after the first red streak from exposure to ant toxin. There are families of 2-3 people seriously injured by triathletes.
Ms. Thu is one of the severe patients with three-cavity contact dermatitis. From a few small nodules near her eyes, three days later the lesions spread to the face of Thu’s neck, with bluish-white pus.
Dr. Giang said that Ms. Thu was seriously injured by rubbing herself, which caused the ant toxin to spread. The patient presents signs of superinfection, burning in the affected area, fever, nearby lymphadenopathy.
“Patients need a combination of antibiotics, pain relief, itching, super infection. It takes 5 to 7 days to stabilize,” Dr. Giang said on September 30.
Many patients with trisomy contact dermatitis mistakenly confuse it with nervous shingles. Usually in a 35-year-old male patient in Hanoi, some small spots appear on the chin, neck, burning pain. Thinking of herpes zoster, the patient’s wife went online to study the “remedy” to chew 7 grains of sticky rice and apply green beans to the affected area for her husband. The condition did not improve, her husband continued to burn with pain and more general injuries, he had to go to the hospital when his neck was red, super infected.
According to Dr. Giang, shingles is a viral skin disease that often causes pain and pain, then blisters appear that stretch and grow in clusters according to the distribution of the nerves and one side of the body. Meanwhile, tricyclic ant contact dermatitis causes the patient burning pain, blotchy lesions, usually on open skin, slightly opaque bottom, on tiny blisters or pustules in between. , with a concave area of yellowish brown color, round or oval in shape. Lesions can quickly fill with pus. Patients should have a clear distinction, avoid following the remedies online.
Dr. Giang said that the three cavities cause diseases that are not burned, but because the secretions, adhere to the skin, cause contact dermatitis on the spot. In the body of three-chambered ants it contains the Pederin toxin, which is 12 to 15 times more toxic than cobra venom, but due to the small amount of exposure and only outside the skin, it is not as lethal as the snake venom, only harm the skin. .
However, this toxin can cause serious complications. The patient may present with diffuse nearby lesions, fever, general malaise, superinfection, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. If treated, it will go away after a week. In late treatment, skin lesions can leave red scars for months to disappear. Its toxins adhere to the eye causing conjunctivitis and mild swelling around the eyes, in cases of temporary blindness.
When detecting three-chambered ants, you should wear gloves or use soft paper to handle them, absolutely do not rub, hit the ants to release the poison. When you accidentally hit or rub ants’ skin, wash immediately with clean water, saline water, or soap to reduce toxins. For minor injuries (red dot), a special treatment cream is applied. If the lesions are more serious, pustules appear that must be treated by a hospital specialized in dermatology.
“Absolutely not covering the leaves, applying unproven remedies or applying antiseptics containing iodine and alcohol will worsen the wound, increase the risk of superinfection,” recommended Dr. Giang.
The Department of Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health recommends that fluorescent lamps be replaced with yellow lights, because three-chamber ants like fluorescent lighting very much. Before going to bed, you need to sweep the house again to clean the floor and get a mosquito net to avoid insects. When the environment has a lot of ants, spraying the ants that are stored on the walls inside and outside the house has the effect of repelling and killing them.
