On the evening of the same day, TASS citing sources from the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Su-30 was mistakenly fired by another aircraft during air combat. The accident occurred at 2:00 p.m. on September 22 (Moscow time) in the Kuvshinovsky district of the Tver region, near the capital Moscow.

However, the Russian Defense Ministry did not specify the type of Su-30 that crashed.

And the Su-35S produced in 2019 with tail number 22 is said to have shot down the Su-30M2, which is from the 790 Fighter Regiment, the 105th Division of the Western Military Region Mixed Air Force, based in the yard. Air exercises of the MiG-31 and Su-35 aircraft of the Western Military Region in Tver were also reported on the website of the Russian Defense Ministry on September 19.

Some Russian newspapers lead experts to comment that shooting down the Su-30M2 with a 30mm cannon through the Su-35S was a violation of safety procedures for both ground inspection soldiers and pilots. The reason is that the firing button on the Su-35S 30mm cannon should have been turned off before the plane took off for air exercises, in addition to removing all projectiles from the barrel. And the pilot should have checked this too.
