Putin’s critic Alexei Navalny was released from Berlin hospital, where he was treated for being poisoned by the nerve agent Novichok.
Charité Hospital says they are ending special medical care because their condition has improved significantly.
Mr. Navalny posted a photo of him standing on the stairs without assistance and the message said that the doctors had given him the opportunity to make a full recovery.
His team accused him of having been poisoned by order of President Vladimir Putin.
The Kremlin has completely denied any involvement in the incident.
Navalny, a prominent Russian opposition activist, lost consciousness during a flight over Siberia on August 20. He was then transferred to the Charité Hospital in the German capital.
What did the doctor say?
A hospital statement said Navalny, 44, was hospitalized for 32 days, including 24 days in the residential resuscitation department.
“Depending on the progress and condition of the patient, treating physicians believe that a full recovery is possible. However, it is still too early to assess the long-term effects of severe poisoning.” “the statement said.
The hospital revealed earlier this month that Mr. Navalny had started to recover and said he had been on his respirator and was able to get out of bed.
At the time, the German government said that laboratories in France and Sweden reaffirmed test results in Germany that showed that the poison used against Mr. Nalvany was Novichok.
The Kremlin says there is no evidence for that.
What is the background to the case?
Navalny’s supporters at first thought that the tea he drank at Tomsk, Siberia, airport before boarding a plane to Moscow was poisoned. However, they later said that traces of the nerve agent were found in a bottle of water in the hotel room where he was staying.
Mr. Navalny fell ill during the flight and the plane had to make an emergency landing in the city of Omsk. Two days later, Russian officials agreed to allow him to be sent to Germany for treatment.
After tests confirmed that he was poisoned with Novichok, the EU asked the Russian government to open a “transparent” investigation.
“Those responsible must be brought to justice,” said an EU statement.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson accused the poisoning of “ruthless.”
On Tuesday, Navalny posted on Instagram dismissing Putin’s alleged suggestion that Navalny had poisoned himself.
French newspaper Le Monde reported that during a phone call with President Emmanuel Macron on September 14, Putin “spoke of Alexei Navalny with contempt and considered him an Internet troublemaker, which was imagine from past illnesses.”
“Putin is smarter than me,” Nalvany wrote on Instagram, mocking the Russian president. “He’s not a fool. So I, like an idiot, have been unconscious for 18 days but got what I wanted. The provocation failed!”
Western politicians have yet to react to the poisoning, said BBC correspondent Jenny Hill from Berlin.
However, Navalny’s firing will increase pressure on German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who asked the Kremlin for a full response, reporter Jenny Hill added.
