Before that, around 8:00 am on the same day, family members took NTBT (1 year old, An Giang’s hometown, temporarily residing in Nhon Trach district) to the city medical station of Hiep Phuoc to receive the second Japanese encephalitis vaccine.

Before the injection, the child was examined, was healthy and had no abnormalities.

After the injection, the child continued to be monitored for 30 minutes at the health station, but did not show any abnormalities and must be sent home.

However, around 11:00 am, the family took the boy to the medical station for cyanosis, unable to take his pulse. The boy was then transferred to the Nhon Trach District Medical Center to continue treatment in a pulseless state, no blood pressure, no heartbeat.

The boy was then transferred to Dong Nai Children’s Hospital for treatment. However, the baby died later.

The original cause, the Department of Health judged for anaphylaxis after the injection.

After the incident, the forensic force underwent surgery to investigate the cause of death. There are currently no forensic results.

According to the Dong Nai Health Department, there were 10 children injected with the same vaccine vial as T. and 57 children who received the same batch of vaccine. The vaccine lot is valid until February 2021. So far no abnormalities have been reported in other children.

According to Mr. Vu, the Japanese encephalitis vaccine has been vaccinated and is safe for many years, so the vaccine continues to be used. However, in the immediate future, the Department will direct the suspension of vaccination against the aforementioned batch of vaccines, at the same time conducting a thorough investigation of the related vaccination work, and meeting with the professional council to close the case.
