On September 15, Vice Premier Trinh Dinh Dung chaired a conference to discuss the livestock development strategy for the period 2020-2030, vision 2040.

According to Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, in the period from 2008 to 2018, Vietnam made outstanding achievements, becoming a modern livestock ecosystem.

In the past 10 years, a legal framework has been formed to operate a modern livestock industry, including human resource development, from state administration to companies …

The production of meat of all kinds increased 1.5 times (from 3.6 million tons to 5.4 million tons), eggs increased 2.3 times, reaching 11.6 billion; fresh milk increased 3.6 times to 936.7 thousand tons; Industrial animal feed increased 2.4 times.

“Together with farming and animal husbandry it has created livelihoods for 6-6.5 million households out of 8.6 million farm households, helping to change the face of rural areas,” said Mr. Cuong.

However, according to Minister Cuong, livestock in Vietnam still has some shortcomings, the growth rate is fast but unbalanced. “A food basket, whose consumer price index (CPI) is concerned about the rise in the price of pork throughout the day. Because, with the diet structure, pork accounts for 70% not cSounds reasonable. The average income of people from just $ 400 / person / year has risen to $ 3,000 / person / year. The food requirements have to be different first, they have to be recalculated, ”Mr. Cuong said.

At the same time, the three most important stages, which are production, processing and consumption, can only pass to the production stage, and the processing is “bleeding”. “Currently, Vietnam has 40% of the urban population, 30 million workers in the image of 65 million workers, but still, manual slaughter is not adequate. Modern slaughterhouses have very few, including chicken chains, pork chains, ”Mr. Cuong analyzed.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development also said that the market organization is still poor, when consuming through the market stage is still the main, distribution points, large commercial institutions … are limited.

“In practice there is growth, but we have to go rescue, because it is not connected to the chain,” said Minister Cuong and said: “Microscopic examination” no livestock products are seen, just a little honey, salted eggs, little pig … “.

In the livestock strategy for the 2020-2030 period, with a vision of 2040, Minister Cuong said that the advent of the livestock industry should determine major directions in development, taking three axes: economy, environment and well-being. make lasting efficiency.

“Redefining the structure, seeing the weakness, there will be no more than 70% pork in the structure of the food basket, but it will increase poultry and beef, and change the structure of the industry to meet market demand. . “Minister Cuong said.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that livestock should become a modern economic sector, synchronizing all stages, the livestock industry should take the lead in the circular economy, of which 100 million tons of waste in livestock should generate money. instead of pollution now … At the same time, the industry takes advantage of technology 4.0, combined with Vietnamese traditions, culture, ecological diversity … with the input of the state sector, companies and people to achieve that result.

Minister of Agriculture: 'Microscopy' also did not see livestock products for export - photo 3The livestock industry sets the goal that by 2025, carcass production will reach 5 to 5.5 million tons, and by 2030 it will reach 6 to 6.5 million tons.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, the breeding strategy for more than 10 years has helped restructure the livestock industry, creating high-value products to satisfy domestic and export foods.

Recalling the issue of “highly anchored” pork prices from the end of 2019 until now, the deputy prime minister said it was due to the phase difference between supply and demand, some excess products were missing.

In the livestock strategy for the next period, the Deputy Prime Minister paid attention to competitiveness, protection of the environment, safety from diseases … “To develop livestock in association with the demand of the national and international market, avoiding investments. according to movement, lack of plan and strategy. Forecast information is needed to adjust development investment steps, ”said the deputy prime minister.

The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out that in the coming times, it is necessary to perfect the institutions and policies related to land, capital, races, environmental protection, the market … to help the livestock industry develop in a modern and sustainable way.

Per year, the country’s meat production will reach 6.5 million tons

The Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Duc Tien, said that in the livestock development strategy for the period 2020-2030, with a vision for 2040, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development set a goal for 2030, to develop the breeding of tall breed livestock and poultry. production in the direction of industrial farms, at the same time expanding livestock to organic, traditional with native varieties.

To stabilize the design capacity of industrial animal feed factories by 2030 from 40 to 45 million tons, the actual production from 30 to 32 million tons, accounting for about 70% of total refined feed.

By 2025, carcass production will reach 5 to 5.5 million tons, by 2030 it will reach 6 to 6.5 million tons. In which, 15 to 20% of pork production is exported, 20 to 25% of meat and poultry.
