The Thu Thiem 2 Bridge over the Saigon River connecting District 2 and District 1, with a total investment of nearly VND 3.1 billion, 70% of the construction is stuck in the ground and cannot continue.
The site is trapped in the Ba Son factory area, District 1, making the last stretch of the project impossible, according to representatives from Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company (investor) on the afternoon of September 14.

Currently, the main bridge crossing the cable-stayed bridge in District 2 has completed the concrete girder bridge. Part of the tower in the middle of the Saigon River is finished 27 of 34. 56 sets of cable-stayed cables are imported from abroad and 36 sets of cables have been installed in the project.
Meanwhile, in the section of the bridge leading to District 1 so far, the truss structure has been completed from Nguyen Trung Ngan Street to the curved section of the Ton Duc Thang Line (the section near Ba Son Subway Station by Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien).
In July, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee planned to hand over the District 1 facilities to build the project before September 10, but so far it has not been carried out. Due to the site problem, at the construction site in District 1, the engineers and workers withdrew. Some departments still work in the tower area of District 2.
The Thu Thiem 2 bridge project is more than 1.4 km long (the bridge section is 886 m long, 6 lanes), with an investment capital of 3.082 billion VND, implemented in the form of BT (construction – transfer). The bridge has a cable-stayed design with a 113m high dragon-shaped main tower, leaning towards Thu Thiem, when the new symbol was completed in Ho Chi Minh City.
The bridge started in 2015, it is expected to be finished in 2018, but it is delayed due to some problems. The bridge is extended from September 2021 to September 2021. The project is estimated to play an important role in Ho Chi Minh City’s traffic, especially connecting the new urban area of Thu Thiem with the city center.
At the end of August, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee also requested the Ministry of Defense to allocate land number 2 Ton Duc Thang (District 1) which belongs to the National Historic Site and is a memorial place for President Ton Duc Thang directed by Ba Son Corporation. management for the management of the city, investment projects in restoration and beautification of monuments.
