Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has just won an overwhelming victory in the vote for the leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), replacing Abe Shinzo.
535 people participated in the vote, including 394 PLD members along with 3 representatives from each provincial party committee (a total of 141 people). According to Kyodo News, Yoshihide Suga got 377 votes, beating two rivals, Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba (68 votes) and former Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida (89 votes).
This victory means that Mr. Suga will become the new Prime Minister of Japan.

Unlike many politicians in Japan, Yoshihide Suga comes from a peasant family in Ogachi, now Yuzawa, Akita, the land of the mountains and white snow. He had an impressive quote for many people: “No matter how harsh the winter is, spring will come and the snow will melt. That field teaches me perseverance before I know it.”
While studying at Hosei University in Tokyo, Suga used to work in a cardboard factory to earn money to cover tuition. It is these difficulties in her life that have helped her to progress steadily in her political career. Starting as a local congressman, since 2012, he has served as the Chief of the Cabinet Office, serving as the main spokesperson and as Prime Minister Abe Shinzo’s right-hand man.
In the new role, Yoshihide Suga is committed to maintaining the monetary policy known as Abenomics, a legacy from his predecessor. He stated that he would be more aggressive if necessary on monetary policy to protect jobs and businesses in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Politically, Yoshihide Suga used links in the PLD, the coalition partner party Komeito, and the opposition conservative party Nippon Ishin no Kai to maintain power for the Abe administration. His dominance of the politically neutral makes him an impressive distinction from rivals Shigeru Ishiba and Fumio Kishifa.
In foreign affairs, Abe’s policy of strengthening the alliance with the United States and improving relations with China will continue.
As for private life, Yoshihide Suga is a politician who is not involved in corruption, controversy or discredit. Pay special attention to taking care of your own health.
In August, Abe Shinzo, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, announced his resignation due to health problems, ending a nearly eight-year term.
