As the best team, Crystal Palace deserves the 3 points in the reception to Southampton at home in the first round of the Premier League.
Both Crystal Palace and Southampton chose to enter the game with relative caution, which made the game slow.
With home advantage, Palace is the most active team in the first minutes, and it is the team that has the advantage. In the 13th minute, the host launched a rhythmic attack, Townsend crossing the ball as if to let Zaha finish in an empty stance, scoring the opening score of the match.
After the first goal, the pace of the game still showed no signs of picking up. The slow play of both teams meant that the first half did not have many remarkable situations and the 1-0 was also the score of the first half.
Going into the second half, Southampton had no choice but to lift the squad to attack to find the tie. It was the visitors who pushed for most of the second half, but the lack of creativity in the attacking game meant they didn’t create many notable opportunities.
Unable to score, Southampton nearly conceded a second goal when Zaha hit McCarthy in the 81st minute, but VAR said no to the Ivory Coast striker.
In the final minutes, Southampton were completely defenseless and accepted defeat with the lowest score.
