According to the Fox NewsNorwegian MP Christian Tybring-Gjedde has just nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 for mediating a peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“I believe that Mr. Trump has worked harder to achieve peace between countries than most of the other Nobel Peace Prize nominees,” Senator Tybring-Gjedde told Fox News in an interview.
According to the nomination letter sent to the Nobel Committee, the deal negotiated by the Trump administration could be seen as a “game changer, turning the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity.” .
Also in the letter, Tybring-Gjedde noted the importance of the Trump administration in normalizing relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and facilitating dialogue between parties to protracted conflicts. including India and Pakistan on the issue of the Kashmir border and the Korean peninsula.
“Mr. Trump broke the 39-year chain in which the president of the United States started the war or led the United States into an international armed conflict,” Tybring-Gjedde said.
This is not the first time that President Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2018, Tybring-Gjedde and another Norwegian official submitted their nomination to Trump for holding a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.
Last month, Israel and the United Arab Emirates reached a historic agreement to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries, and the United Arab Emirates became the first Persian Gulf country to normalize relations with Tel Aviv.
The United Arab Emirates is also the third Arab country after Egypt and Jordan to sign a peace agreement with Israel. Other Gulf states, including Bahrain and Oman, may sign similar agreements with Israel in the near future.
