Also at the opening ceremony, the President of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, in the role of President of AIPA 2020 and President of the General Assembly of AIPA 41, delivered the keynote address to the General Assembly. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also delivered a welcoming speech.

The National Assembly of Vietnam held the 41st AIPA General Assembly with the theme: “Parliamentary Diplomacy for a Cohesive and Proactive ASEAN Community” via online form from 8-10 September at the Association Center. International Conference (ICC) in Hanoi. This is the third time that the National Assembly of Vietnam has assumed the presidency of AIPA and has hosted the General Assembly of AIPA.

In the context of the online meeting, the Organizing Committee is not expected to meet with the Executive Committee, but must consult the member parliaments through documents by email. National Assembly Speaker Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, in the role of AIPA 2020 Chairperson and AIPA 41 General Assembly Chairperson, will preside over and deliver the opening speech of the General Assembly. She will also deliver the closing address at the 41st AIPA General Assembly; empowered the President of AIPA in 2021 and the General Assembly of AIPA 42.

In particular, the AIPA 41 General Assembly is expected to approve the Committee’s draft resolutions; establishment of the AIPA Youth Parliamentary Conference; award awards for outstanding dedication to AIPA; admission of the new AIPA Observer; sign the general statement in the form of a notice.

Some proposals and initiatives from Vietnam, as well as some new items in AIPA 41 such as: AIPA Youth Parliamentary Meeting; admission of the new AIPA Observer; The AIPA Conference of Congressmen … received a very positive response from participating countries.
