“There are many security agents and functional forces in front of the courthouse, both in uniform and without uniform. When people stand near the courthouse, they have not been in front of the door and the security forces have driven them away. Still I’m standing here to look out onto the court, “Duyen said.
Ms. Duyen said that she and other people from Dong Tam whose relatives are on trial cried when they saw photos of their loved ones on the radio after days of detention:
“When I saw the photos of all my relatives published in the official newspaper, I was very moved and could not contain the tears. Not only me, but also Dong Tam people with relatives in court. We no longer recognize our loved ones because they are so emaciated, “Duyen said between sobs.
She expressed her wish: “I only hope that in this trial no one dies, no one dies again. Regarding the sentence, I think the court will rule very strongly on the people of Dong Tam.”
“I hope that international organizations, the media, everyone asks for help.”
The request to replace the judge has been denied
“As everyone can see, the people of Dong Tam, after many days of imprisonment, today look very cruel, different from before. Lawyer Le Van Hoa said that Mr. Le Dinh Chuc’s health situation is weak, He must have an assistant, not as healthy as the media reported before, “he said.
Attorney Le Van Hoa is the legal advocate for four Dong Tam residents, including Mr. Le Dinh Cong, Le Dinh Chuc, Le Dinh Uy, and Ms. Tran Thi La.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen, at the end of the morning session, lawyer Le Van Hoa informed her family about the situation:
“I called lawyer Le Van Hoa to ask her about the situation, and I learned that in court, Mrs. Bui Thi Noi was upset when they brought her to trial, I asked the court judge for his opinion but she complained, but the competent authorities returned her to the seat.
“Lawyer Hoa told me that he asked to change the judge and asked to contact the client, but the security forces prevented him,” Duyen said.
Previously speaking with the BBC, lawyer Le Van Hoa said that in order to look out for the client’s interests, he would propose to the Trial Panel to invite two important witnesses in the case, Ms. Du Thi Thanh, his wife Le. Dinh Kinh, who died in a clash with the police on January 9, and her nephew, Nguyen Thi Duyen, the defendant’s wife, Le Dinh Uy (Le Dinh Cong’s son and grandson, Le Dinh Kinh).
The family said that Ms. Duong Thi Thanh (Mr. Le Dinh Kinh’s wife) was present this morning in front of the court door but was unable to enter and was evicted by the competent forces.
“It rained a lot in Hanoi this morning, but she was still there with everyone. Around 11 noon, we took her back to Dong Tam because we were concerned about her health,” Duyen said.
Regarding the situation in court, Ms. Duyen added that Mr. Trinh Ba Khiem, her husband Can Thi Theu, was abducted by the authorities. She said: “Uncle Trinh Ba Khiem came in front of the court and stood normally, did nothing, but the security police took him away.”
During the afternoon, defense lawyers filed a complaint with the Hanoi People’s Court, reflecting that the police force defending the trial prevented the lawyers from contacting the accused.
According to the complaint, at 11:10 am, when the trial panel continued with the trial, lawyer Dang Dinh Manh asked the trial panel to clearly announce that lawyers have the right to contact the accused. I defend myself at trial, but the presiding judge (Judge Truong Viet Toan) publicly stated that contact between the lawyer and the defendant at trial is not necessary because the lawyers had had time before. contact with defendants in prison.
Before the trial took place this morning, Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen reflected that the people of Dong Tam were not allowed to travel freely.
He added that in the process of going from Dong Tam to Hanoi, there were many blocking posts to check and prevent people from going to court. Therefore, the people whose relatives were arrested in Dong Tam have been actively gone for many days.
