Lao CaiAt 1:15 p.m. on September 7, the gate to the Ban Phung Campus, Khanh Yen Thuong Elementary School, Van Ban District, collapsed, crushing three pre-school and elementary school students.
Nguyen Manh Thang, Head of the Van Ban District Education and Training Department, said that of the three students, there is a 4-year-old preschool-age child, two of the first-graders come to school in the afternoon, at starting at 14 o’clock. “When it was not time to go to school, sadly the school gate collapsed, on top of three children. All three were killed on the spot,” reported Mr. Thang.
The Ban Phung branch is located on a hill, about 2 m above the surface of the main road. The iron gate, 2 m high, with barricades, is located halfway from the main road to the schoolyard. It was not raining at the time of the accident. But from last night until noon on September 7, the area rained heavily due to the influence of the low pressure trench and the convergence of strong winds.
Ban Phung campus is a learning place for preschool and elementary school students in Khanh Yen Thuong commune.
Authorities are blocking the scene, investigating the cause of the accident and supporting families to carry out funerals for the victims in accordance with local customs.
