The TASS news agency reported on May 5 that the Russian government announced a new decree on April 4, expanding the list of economic sanctions for Ukrainian individuals and businesses.
Among the 41 new faces are former President Petro Poroshenko, former MP Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, former deputy adviser to Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv and many others.
Those on this list have their assets frozen in Russia and are subject to many other measures.
The list of embargoes was announced by the Russian authorities in November 2018 against those involved in Ukraine’s offensive actions against Russia. According to AFP, there are 322 people and 68 Ukrainian companies were listed before the 4.9 decision.
Poroshenko was the leader of Ukraine during the height of the conflict in eastern Ukraine between government troops and allegedly Russian-backed rebels. Tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated in November 2018 after a clash between armed ships from both sides in the Sea of Azov.
