Messi’s father and representative, Jorge Messi, traveled to Barcelona from his native Argentina to negotiate on his son’s future on September 2 with President Josep Maria Bartomeu. When questioned by the press, Jorge admitted that “it will be very difficult” for his son to stay at Barça, because the contract between the two sides is no longer valid.

However, the Barça team did not hesitate to escalate the contractual dispute with Messi by taking their captain to court if he left the club and signed unilaterally with another team in the form of a free transfer.

The Catalan team will also initiate a judicial process with the signing of the Argentine player by the club, after the rumors of Manchester City emerged.

Messi surprised the Barça bosses last week by requesting a free transfer from 25 August, the day after the 2-8 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. He signaled his intention to leave the club after 16 dedicated seasons in which he was absent from the COVID-10 test and did not attend training camp afterward.

The 33-year-old forward claims the termination clause in his contract allowing him to quit his job takes effect immediately. But Camp Nou officials said the rule expires on June 10 and the Argentine star remains on contract until the summer of 2021.

LaLiga organizers also supported Barça and confirmed that any club that wanted Messi had to pay the price of 629 million pounds (700 million euros). A frustrated Messi solved the problem himself when not playing with his teammates and launched a new coach Koeman to prepare for the new season.

The international press simultaneously reported that former master Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City could sign Messi for £ 450 million over 5 years, including 2 years of playing for New York City for the American professional tournament.

Spanish media cite a regulation from FIFA and the Swiss Court of Arbitration, showing that Messi “prevails” if there is a commercial dispute between the two parties. Meanwhile, Barça continued to insist on suing Messi and Manchester City in court, if they signed a contract between them, despite FIFA’s permission.

Messi and his lawyers have made a move to be ready to fight on the legal front as they feel the Spanish giant doesn’t have a solid reason to tie him up.

Inside Barça, midfielder Frenkie de Jong revealed that he and his teammates fell into chaos after Messi’s shocking decision. The Dutch player revealed: “Currently, in Barcelona it is a mess. So many strange things happened. We still hope Messi stays at the Camp Nou, as he is still a member of the team’s WhatsApp chat group. Keep talking to the normal group and we avoid talking about Messi’s own business.

Maximiliano Biancucchi, Messi’s cousin, added: “My feeling is that his farewell from Barça is not so clear; I’m not 100% sure that he left the team that has been with him for 20 years. Former player Maximiliano, also a close member of Messi’s family, also hinted that legal hurdles could cause Messi to reconsider his decision.
