There used to be a stage of lung damage of up to 70% and mechanical ventilation, however, after almost 1 month of treatment, the Covid-19 case, a pizza delivery man in Hanoi, was discharged from the hospital and recovered spectacularly.
After almost 1 month of treatment, it was announced that Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, 62, a pizza delivery boy in Hanoi (BN812) was cured. BN812’s recovery is great news, because before that, there was a time when he had to invade the ventilation machine, his lung function was damaged by up to 70%.
“When the situation got worse, I thought of my family. They still owe a lot to their children, so they are motivated to live, ”Thang said the day she officially won the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Swollen legs, increased by almost 10 kg due to Covid-19
Recalling the early days of this intense war, he said: “I came into close contact with my Covid-19 colleague on the afternoon of July 23, when he gave me tools to repair the dishwasher at the store. . Only 3 days later I started to feel a little fever, cough and body aches ”.
Once a soldier, his symptoms were no different from the ailments that, at the time, hardly frightened him. However, after only 2 days of being treated at Thanh Nhan Hospital, this man really understood the dangers of the germs he carried on him.
“I went down incredibly fast. After only 2 days in the hospital, the short journey from the hospital room to the elevator took my breath away, ”Thang said.
Given both epidemiological and clinical factors, Mr. Thang was transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment. Here, this patient’s condition worsened.
According to his account, after only a few days, his legs were swollen. Therefore, the weight increased from 77 kg to 84 kg.
However, these were only external problems, because through tests, X-rays, doctors determined that his most serious problem was deep in his lungs.
After 2 days of treatment in the Emergency Department and receiving non-invasive oxygen but his condition continued to worsen, he was transferred to the intensive care unit. Doctors diagnosed the patient with muscle weakness, fatigue, and respiratory failure.
“When I was first transferred to the intensive care unit, a young doctor asked me why I was admitted to the hospital so late. The doctor also encouraged me that now, if I want to be cured, I must be determined to follow the instructions, to comply with the maximum treatment, ”said Mr. Thang.
“Knowing that I could live, I was as happy as I could reach for a stake.”
“At that time, my body was exhausted, my mind was not clear, but I heard that I could live happily as a man with a stake,” said the old soldier.
Shortly after being transferred to the intensive care unit, the patient’s lung damage continued to worsen. Doctors here had to insert endotracheal tubes for patients on invasive mechanical ventilation. In addition, other antiviral and antiviral drugs are also used.
For his part, Mr. Thang said that during the long period of time in the intensive care unit, he was always in a daze, sometimes he would wake up and look around to see the machines, many people in protective clothing knew each other themselves. is in the hospital; Sometimes I hear about the doctor and I know that my illness is very serious.
It used to be the most serious of the three Covid-19 cases treated in the intensive care unit, but luckily for BN812, it responded well to treatment.
After approximately 2 weeks, Mr. Thang was able to remove the endotracheal tube and it was transferred to oxygen vessels. The lung damage was still present at this point, still lying in bed, but for him it was a great pleasure.
“After waking up, I feel very happy when I can breathe a little on my own. I feel like I have a future, ”he said wittily.
Special breathing exercises
One memory that Mr. Thang believes to be the most memorable during the treatment process is the breathing exercises with the doctor as he gradually recovers.
“The doctor examined my lungs. After that, teach me how to tighten my lungs, take a deep breath, then exhale, do it over and over again 4-5 times, then take a break, then take a break, then do it again. After a few days of training the doctor checked my lungs and said that it had improved, he was very excited. So there is more motivation to practice more, ”Thang said.
Today, standing in front of the Positive Rehabilitation Department with the mindset of a completely healed person, Mr. Thang wore a mask but still had joy on his face.
Nor did he forget to transfer his feelings to the “white blouses” that have accompanied him in this special war: “I can live today thanks to the dedication of doctors and physicians.” I am very grateful to the wonderful people who have done everything possible, with all their responsibilities and dedication at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
In the list of patients declared today cured by the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, there are also: BN678, BN1038.
All cases declared cured were 3 times negative for SARS-CoV-2 or more, signs of stable survival. Once the cure is announced, patients will continue in local quarantine for an additional 14 days, under the supervision of the Centers for Disease Control.
