Attorney Hoa said that in terms of the law, this is a public trial. That means that any interested citizen has the right to attend. But according to him, only those summoned will attend the next trial, which is unlikely to include the relatives of the accused.
“I think the authorities will prepare very meticulously for the security and order of this trial. Especially the area around the Hanoi court will definitely have very tight traffic control. Those with duties can enter the court area,” said Hoa to the BBC.
Mr. Hoa assessed that because the nature of this case is particularly important and serious, the security work is even improved and stricter than other cases.
“With the practice that I have experienced, when participating in some sensitive court cases, especially in cases of infringement of national security, the participation of the lawyer in the courtroom is often very restricted.
“For example, it is not allowed to bring telephones, tape recorders, computers into the courtroom. Access to the courtroom is subject to a very strict security control, screening of passersby, vehicles and bags, documents brought.”
Hanoi lawyer Ngo Anh Tuan, who defends Mr. Le Dinh Quang, Bui Viet Hieu and Nguyen Quoc Tien, also told BBC News Vietnamese that no relatives of the accused will attend the “open” trial. is.

To protect clients’ rights, lawyer Le Van Hoa told BBC News Vietnamese that he would ask the trial panel to invite two important witnesses in the case, Ms. Du Thi Thanh, Mr. Le Dinh’s wife. Attorney Hoa said it is difficult to contact clients and access records, having to spend many times sending requests to the relevant agencies.
Until he was allowed to contact the client, attorney Hoa was only allowed to meet with Mr. Cong, Chuc, Huy, while defendant La was “unable to meet,” despite requesting the detention center. many times.
The first meeting with Mr. Cong, Uy and Chuc took place in May. The most recent meeting was with Mr. Chuc which took place in July.
Although the trial is imminent, the lawyers have only had access to the file for about twenty days.
“I and two or three lawyers had to continually go to the Hanoi Public Prosecutor’s Office to file petitions a third time before they could access and copy the files,” said Hoa lawyer.
Lawyer Ngo Anh Tuan also reflected the difficulty in completing the defense registration procedures, the limited contact with the defendant in the detention center, the difficulty in accessing and copying the records. .
Attorney Hoa added that Mr. Chuc was seriously injured, his right skull was hanging, he could not walk alone, but had to be escorted from the cell to the fore room to see the lawyer. But the last time he met Mr. Chuc his health was much better, he was able to go alone.
