The visit of the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Milos Vystrcil, to Taiwan begins on August 30 and is scheduled to last five days. The politician said the visit was aimed at promoting trade cooperation with Taiwan and said Prague will not fear a response from China.
According to AFP, Mr. Vystrcil will speak at the Taiwan Legislative Institute and hold talks with Thai leader Anh Van.
Commenting on this visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on August 31 that challenging the “one China” principle means becoming the enemy of 1.4 billion Chinese.
Wang warned that the Chinese government and people will not tolerate the open provocations of Mr. Vystrcil and the anti-China forces behind him.
“We will make him pay a high price for myopia and political opportunism,” Wang said while traveling through Germany, according to Reuters.
China considers Taiwan to be the territory of a single China and does not renounce the possibility of using force to unify the island.
Relations across the Taiwan Strait have been strained since Thai Anh Van took office in 2016 and advocated leaving the mainland.
