The Gia Dinh University representative apologized after sending a text message to a number of candidates with the content “Your test score is very low.”

Recently, a number of candidates from Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh … received admissions messages with the content “Your exam score is very low, do not wait to change your aspirations, come immediately to Gia University Dinh to sign up early. “

The content of this message made many candidates uncomfortable because they not only received the message once, but at the same time many times. Soon after, the information spread rapidly through many pages and groups on social media. Facebook expressed opposition to the Gia Dinh University posts.

Lao Dong had an interview with Mr. Vu Ba Thuan, Head of Admissions – Communication Department of Gia Dinh University about this story.

Sir, the candidate incident reflects that the school sent a message that reads “Your test score is too low … “how bad is it?

It is true that the above incident occurred. Our aim is to send the message to the candidates if they do not get a good score, do not wait for their aspirations, but they can apply for admission to the school. We hope that candidates with low scores, of sufficient minimum scores from the Ministry of Education and Training, will also enter the University.

However, during the implementation, there were technical errors that made the nature of the story very different, which annoyed the students.

So what is the initial content that the school sends out to candidates?

The content of the original message had a question mark behind the phrase “Do you have a very low test score?”, Which means asking the question if you have scores too low, you should not wait for aspirations. But when submitting the content, the question mark (?) Has been changed to a comma (,), so the meaning has been turned around to confirm that the contestant has low scores. Since then, the message that the school wants to send is not appropriate in this context.

Can the school determine how many messages have been sent to the candidates in which provinces / cities?

School data is divided into many groups, some groups have submitted paper applications at the school, and groups have submitted online applications. When the system crashed, it took the data and automatically sent it to many people. Therefore, it is impossible to know exactly how many contestants have been submitted. Let’s retest this.

What has the school been doing to solve this problem?

Immediately after noticing a content issue and repeating the message repeatedly sent to students, the school immediately stopped sending this message. We then send an apology message to the candidate and post a public apology on the official website and on the school’s fan page. Furthermore, we also respond to each candidate’s response on the fan page to explain more about this unfortunate incident.

Through an exchange with Lao Dong newspaper, the school also sincerely apologizes to all the candidates and parents for upsetting everyone.

From this incident, the school also learned many lessons. We will censor content more thoroughly and databases will be systematically rebuilt to prevent similar incidents.
