“We looked closely and found that the details were completely logical. There is no reason to believe that the results of the Vietnamese expert consultation were inaccurate,” said the WHO representative.
Patient 251 was admitted to the Gastroenterology Department of Ha Nam General Hospital from March 20 due to terminal cirrhosis, exhaustion, severe gout, stiffness, and muscle atrophy.
On April 7, the patient who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, whose source of infection was unknown, was referred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment.
After 4 negative tests with SARS-CoV-2, on 04/17, the patient was declared cured, the condition was stable and then he was transferred to the provincial general hospital for the treatment of cirrhosis.
However, on the morning of May 1, the patient died. Immediately thereafter there was information of suspected death due to Covid-19 related.
However, the Professional Council of the Ministry of Health met with leading experts and identified deaths from terminal cirrhosis, not Covid-19.
When the patient died, Ha Nam General Hospital tested SARS-CoV-2 for a negative result, the patient had no symptoms of lung damage caused by Covid-19.
