Indian Army Commander Manoj Mukund Naravane announced on October 10 the introduction of elite units of the Integrated Operational Forces (IBG) to respond on the border with China.
Indian Army soldiers.
According to Zee News, Naravane said the purpose of sending elite units to the mountainous areas along the Chinese border was to be ready to strike quickly in the event of war.
Naravane’s announcement came just a day after Indian and Chinese soldiers fiercely clashed at an altitude of more than 5,000 meters, along the border between the two countries.
“Four Indian soldiers and seven Chinese soldiers were injured in the clash that involved about 150 soldiers,” said an Indian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Naravane said preparation for IBG units had been completed beforehand, but the deployment was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Naravane insists that elite units will continue to be available at critical points on the border.
The IBG combat doctrine is a new concept proposed by India since 2019,
emphasizing the operational independence of units along the border with China, ensuring combat capability even when isolated from the rear.
India built the best IBG combat units, fully equipped with weapons such as tanks, artillery, helicopters, carried by large transport aircraft such as the C-17 Globemaster III. and C-130J Super Hercules.
Each IBG unit has at least 5,000 soldiers and is led by a senior general.
In October, when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited India, the Indian army organized a vigorous exercise called HimVijay with the participation of three IBG units, to assess combat capabilities. in the mountains
India and China have a 4,000-kilometer border, most of which remain in dispute. Small conflicts still occur, especially border tensions that lasted more than 2 months in 2017.
The 2017 clash occurred on the Doklam Plateau when China brought bulldozers to the road. 270 Indian soldiers were ordered to stop and a fight broke out, injuring both sides.
Tensions only ceased when China canceled plans to build roads in disputed territories and withdraw troops.
