More than a dozen cases of COVID-19 in the group infected by China’s largest community in Shu Lan City, Jilin Province, were reported on 10.5.
The Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) said 12 of the 14 new cases, the first of two numbers for the month, were community infections.
SCMP quoted NHC spokesperson Mi Feng during a press conference on July 10, describing the situation in Shu Lan as the largest community infection group in China in the past 2 months.
Jilin Province reported an infectious case in the community on June 6, after 73 days without any new cases. The patient is a 45-year-old woman who works in the City Police Police Laundromat.
Of the 18 people exposed to this patient, 12 were confirmed to be infected in 10.5.
Of the 12 cases mentioned above, 1 was from Wuhan, the first case since 3.4. Before the test, the patient did not show any symptoms of COVID-19.
There have been no reports of deaths in mainland China for almost 1 month. The death toll was 4,633 on October 10.
The increase in new COVID-19 cases is bad news for the people of Thu Lan, who are currently facing a new set of restrictions.
The Jilin government said it had ordered the closure of all but the most essential services in Shu Lan and demanded that people stay home.
