After so many days of waiting, fans finally got rid of their thirst for soccer with the first game of the Covid-19 season. With satisfactory control of the disease, the South Korean government allowed the country’s league (K-League) to return, beginning with the opening match between Jeonbuk Motors and Suwon Bluewings.

The match between Jeonbuk Motors and Suwon Bluewings starting at 17:00 (Vietnam time) was broadcast free of charge worldwide, with BLV commentator Simon Hill of the A-League (Australia). With many leagues around the world not back yet, this will be a good opportunity for Korean football to be introduced to the world.
According to DailyMail statistics, there were around 50,000 fans worldwide who watched the game live, with 20,000 of them watching on YouTube, 10,000 watching on Twitter, and 20,000 watching on BBC sports pages. There were even joint sessions on Zoom.
Back in the match between Jeonbuk Motors and Suwon Bluewings, this matchup was held at Jeonju Stadium, where 3 matches were played in the 2002 World Cup Final. Jeonbuk is the defending champion team for 3 consecutive seasons, while Bluewings has not been crowned since 2008.
Jeonbuk has names that have played in England for mid-range clubs: winger Kim Bo Kyung (played for Cardiff and Wigan) and forward Lee Dong Gook (played for Middlesbrough). Lee is 41 years old, but still shows impressive performance. Meanwhile, Bluewings owns former Fulham player Adam Taggart on the team.

With superior strength and class, Jeonbuk took control of the game, while the Bluewings played together and sought a counterattack. The home team created up to 16 situations, but only scored 1 goal when the game was 7 minutes away, with a swift header from Lee Dong Gook after a corner kick. Previously, in the 75th minute, the Bluewings only played with 10 people after the ball to Terry Antonis’ wrong ball with the opponent.
A special feature of this match is that, although they play on the field without the audience, the organizers still organize artificial cheering sounds, which are played throughout the duration of the match.
With 3 points, Jeonbuk temporarily took the lead and Bluewings temporarily tied the table. Tomorrow (May 9), the remaining 5 matches of the first round will continue. However, the BTC K-League has not promised to broadcast the upcoming matches for free.
