Consequently, the samples analyzed for pharyngeal and pharyngeal fluid from patient 188 by the RT-PCR method at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases 2 were negative with SARS-CoV-2.
Patient 188, L.T.H., female, 44 years old, in the village of Khon Duy, My Luong Commune, Chuong My District, Hanoi. Ms. H. is an employee of Truong Sinh Company, a catering company at Bach Mai Hospital.
The patient was diagnosed with Covid-19 on March 29 and transferred to treatment at Ha Nam General Hospital. During the course of treatment, the patient tested negative for the first nCoV on April 11, the second on April 14 and was declared healed on April 16.

After being discharged from the hospital, the patient was taken by the Truong Sinh company car to his home to isolate himself at home. However, on April 17, Mrs. H. began to show dry cough in the episodes, mild fever of 36.8 degrees, a little pressure on the chest, no runny nose.
The Chuong My District People’s Committee immediately ordered the District Health Center to take samples to send to CDC Hanoi for analysis. On April 18, CDC Hanoi announced that H. had tested positive for Covid-19. The patients were quickly transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases 2 for treatment and isolation.
Explaining the causes of the repeatedly negative, suddenly unexpectedly positive nCoV-19 cases, associate professor Dr. Nguyen Viet Nhung, director of Lung Central Hospital said there are 3 assumptions.
The simplest case is due to errors in sampling and testing when previous tests on the patient still have viruses but the results are negative. However, this situation is less common.
Second, the patient can re-become infected with another person after being discharged from the hospital. It is necessary to investigate whether the patient has contact with someone outside the community, in the place of residence or not.
“To date, there has been no research to show how long the immune resistance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus lasts.” Like the old SARS virus, it was also positive, but it was small, while MERS-CoV had research showing that the immune system is strong enough not to get caught in the epidemic season, “Nhung explained.
Third, the patient may relapse due to the virus itself. This assumption has two possibilities:
The first possibility is that the virus in the person at the time of the test is still low, so the test is negative, then, due to the patient’s reduced resistance, the virus reappears, the test returns positive. . This situation is less dangerous.
The second possibility is that the virus in patients who have mutated. Normally, old viruses will be destroyed by antibodies, but a mutated virus will escape the control of the immune system and then multiply in the body. If this happens, this is the most dangerous situation.
The Health Ministry said that currently 188 patients will continue to be isolated and monitored at the hospital in the coming days.
