The Belarusian league is about to share the same fate with the rest of European football.
The Belarusian league has drawn attention as the only European league to continue playing after the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic. This tournament is known to be organized by the Belarusian government that the disease situation is not serious, and even this tournament has signed a broadcast contract with at least 10 television stations from other countries.
The stands lacked spectators at the Belarus tournament.
But now even that tournament is about to “collapse”. The number of spectators has decreased alarmingly in recent years, with some matches in front of almost empty seats or only about 300 people coming to watch. Even the Neman Grodno club encouraged their fans not to come to the field, the players before a game also applauded towards the empty stands for the fans’ house.
The reason is because Belarus is no longer in a position to be optimistic. There have been 2,226 cases of the Covid-19 virus in the country and 23 deaths, a rapid increase in recent days. Now the government faces international criticism for not enforcing strict blocking regulations.
All the clubs in the Belarus National League say they play because the country’s Football Federation requires them to play, but they don’t want their fans to be in danger of health, so they actively advise them not to play. Fans also expressed their discontent when they proactively boycotted the matches, although the Belarusian Football Federation said it had established health monitoring systems for fans at the gates of stadiums.
Belarusian clubs have yet to play due to the requirements of the Belarusian Football Federation.
Belarusian league matches are still taking place this weekend with 4 more matches to be played today 12/4 and 13/4 tomorrow. The next round is scheduled for Thursday 4/16, but until then fears that the epidemic will worsen and that the tournament will have to share the same fate with the rest of European football.
