Speaking at a meeting broadcast on Russian television, Prime Minister Mishustin announced that he would be quarantined, according to Reuters.

Mr. Mishustin proposed to appoint First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov as Acting Prime Minister in his absence. President Putin supports this proposal.

“What happens to Mr. Mishustin can happen to anyone. I hope he can continue to work from afar and actively participate in government decision-making,” said the president. Putin said.

“Without Mr. Mishustin’s direction, the government will not be able to make decisions,” Putin said, wishing for Mr. Mishustin to recover soon.

Prime Minister Mishustin was appointed in January and is responsible for the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Russian media earlier this week announced that cabinet members and staff members who had direct contact with Mishustin were regularly screened at Covid-19.

This happened amid the number of infections in Russia that rose to more than 100,000 on April 30, with more than 1,000 people dying from Covid-19.
President Putin extended the blockade order for another two weeks until November 11.5 to limit the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Putin also warned of the looming “very difficult” situation.

The Covid-19 pandemic has spread to all 85 regions of Russia, with the capital Moscow as the center, accounting for 50% of all cases across the country.
