On the afternoon of October 17, in heavy rain, a trailer carrying a 40-foot container ran across the Phu My Bridge, heading from District 7 to the My Thuy roundabout, District 2. As soon as the bridge fell , the car suddenly crashed into the chase. 7-seater car in the same direction. The accident caused no casualties, but caused seven vehicles, including two containers, a pickup truck, two 4-seater cars and two 7-seater vehicles, to deform the head and tail.
According to a 4-seater car driver, at that time, cars were slowly moving in tandem towards the toll booth more than a km away. “I heard a crash behind me when my car jumped into the truck. My car had broken down and I couldn’t continue,” said the driver.
The damaged vehicles blocked the bridge lane from District 7 to District 2 for many kilometers. More than 3 hours later, District 2 traffic police finished handling the scene, the vehicles were hoisted one after another to clear the congestion.
Completed in 2009, Phu My is Ho Chi Minh City’s largest cable-stayed bridge across the Saigon River, with a total investment of almost VND 2.1 billion. With a steep slope and dense truck density from District 7 to District 2 to enter the Cat Lai port, the bridge is considered a “black spot” of traffic accidents, which often occur in chain congestion.
