The National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, on the morning of May 15, received 40 lung donation requests for “91 patients.”

Nguyen Hoang Phuc, deputy director of the National Organ Transplant Center, said those who wanted to donate lungs contacted the Center directly. They are Vietnamese and live both at home and abroad.

“Someone from Myanmar contacted us last night and expressed his willingness to donate a lung, as long as he was eligible for a transplant for the pilot patient,” said Phuc.

Lam, 41, from Tay Ninh, is one of those who wants to donate his lungs. He said he lived alone, without smoking, in good health.

“I feel sorry for the pilot, so even though I have to face the risk of ill health after lung donation, I still want to donate a lung to save him,” Lam said. VnExpress.

Previously, a 40-year-old woman and a 70-year-old veteran had offered to donate part of the lung. Veterans in Dak Nong called the National Organ Coordination Center twice twice.

“Those who want to donate their lungs to save patients are truly respectable. This is a source of encouragement for the healthcare sector to heal critically ill patients, regardless of who they are,” said Phuc.

“Patient 91”, a British pilot, positive for nCoV since March 18, is the most serious patient today. Patient health was erratic, worsened, 90% of lungs were inactive, 40-day ECMO intervention, dialysis

Leading experts at the conference agreed to appoint a lung transplant, evaluating that this is the last chance to save patients. The preferred source of lung donation is brain death.

The Health Ministry said a few days ago that someone died of an adequate brain donation for “patient 91”, but unfortunately the donated lungs could not be used due to an infection. Currently, the National Organ Transplant Center continues to search for adequate sources of donated lungs.

The British embassy said today that its diplomats are in close contact with the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh city. “We extremely support Patient 91 as well as his family,” the statement said.
