Tourist Shutterbug Jan Butter from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, witnessed and recorded the attack of a hungry crocodile while sitting near a lagoon in the national park. The largest crocodile grabbed onto the human body with giant jaws with teeth up to 10 cm long. Pick up young alligators before releasing them into the water for an easy meal.
“In about a minute, the attacker clenches his jaw and swims away with the prey in his mouth,” Butter said. He said that when the attack occurred, his team was only 30 meters away.
Nile crocodiles can be up to 6 m long and weigh about 750 kg, but their usual sizes are 4.9 m and 226 kg. They primarily feed on fish, but are ready to attack anything in the way, including zebras, small hippos and their congeners, according to National Geographic.
Cannibal behavior is not uncommon in alligators. Occasionally, adult males attack a smaller individual if they need to secure dominance or when food supplies are in short supply. The victim always falls on young males because the female crocodile is highly valued for her reproductive value.
