The garbage collection machine runs on water, collects 40 tons in 8 hours, has an investment of 20 billion VND to help reduce human energy, it was tested in the Vam Thuat River, District 12, on October 9.

The model was tested by the HCM City Department of Transportation after a year of research, investment in equipment, and proposed implementation. The system has two small machines, one driver each runs on the water to collect garbage, water hyacinth … then put the 250 tons of barge storage. When it is full, the garbage is transported to shore and taken to the collection site, awaiting treatment.

Another element of the system is a self-propelled garbage recovery train that runs on water. The boat needs levers on both sides, self-collection within 12m around. Garbage is dragged into the compartment of the ship with a capacity of 25 m3 and compressed. When it is full, the train runs to the barge to carry the garbage to the storage compartment. This ship is being assembled, scheduled to operate in early November.

According to Mr. Ha Thanh Son, Head of the Water Traffic Management Division, HCM City Transportation Department, the above-mentioned model needs less than 10 workers, each 8-hour shift can collect 40 tons of garbage. The system has an investment of around 20 billion VND which includes: 2 garbage collection machines, barges, cranes and automatic garbage collectors. Some of the machine equipments need to be imported, the rest are produced by domestic engineers.

“The system can collect many types of garbage, especially large and heavy garbage that is difficult to collect,” Son said, saying that in the short term, the Transportation Department will advise the City’s People’s Committee on the pilot. Evaluating the feasibility, a rental unit will be built to collect garbage in the city’s canals.

Ho Chi Minh City currently organizes garbage collection in canals and ditches like Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe, Kenh Doi – Te canal, Tau Hu – Lo Gom … collected in water. This method is limited in terms of the amount of waste collected, as well as in terms of time and human consumption.
