Reuters on November 23 reported that former US security officials called President Trump’s failure to accept defeat as a dangerous and undemocratic attack on US institutions.
This group of “Biden’s former Republican national security official” includes several high-ranking Republican members of America’s defense and intelligence units, such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Department of Article. The FBI served under Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush, George W. Bush, and President Trump.
Specifically, team members include retired General Michael Hayden, who served as director of national security and head of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); William Webster, who held positions at the top of the CIA and the FBI; and John Negroponte, the first director of national intelligence of the United States.
Most Republican leaders remain silent as President Trump waged a series of legal battles in battle states in hopes of reversing the election results.
“By encouraging President Trump’s delaying tactics or keeping silent, Republican leaders put America’s democracy and national security at risk,” the group wrote.
President Trump’s campaign group described the Republican-led groups supporting Biden as disgruntled former officials, “trying to overthrow the legally elected president of the United States.”
