Just hours after Netflix canceled The community, stars Kathryn Newton and Gideon Adlon took to Instagram to announce the abrupt end of the show.
“I’m heartbroken, so heartbroken,” Newton said in an Instagram video after Netflix reversed its earlier decision to renew the teen mystery for Season 2. The actress then invited her castmate Adlon to join her in delivering a message to her passionate fans. The un-update is “definitely a bit of a gut punch,” Adlon shared. “It simply came to our notice then. It’s a big bummer. But this is how things sometimes work. We have no control over it. ”
Newton noted that although the world is currently “upside down” amid the coronavirus pandemic, “we all really knew how to go back,” she said. ‘Everything was written. I can not even believe it. ”
Adlon added: “I’m sorry we left it on such a cliffhanger. We did not want that. We were all actually waiting to go back. We thought we would be back pretty soon. ”
“I’m so sad. I loved it The community so much. I loved Allie. And I love our cast, ‘Newton concluded.
The community was picked up for Season 2 in July 2019; new episodes were expected to drop sometime this year. Netflix on Friday confirmed that the cancellation was evidenced by the coronavirus pandemic, affecting the production plan and budget.
