We’ve been enthusiastically covering updates on the construction taking place at Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan as it continues to level up. As more of this interactive world comes to life, we’ve seen moving coins, green Koopa shells, super mushrooms, piranha plants, and more all come together to make this world feel like we’re inside the video game.
Today, we saw a Thwomp moving, ready to crash on the ground and, well, thwomp. Thanks to Twitter user @EtiaCSXZDkkpdbs, we were able to see the first look at Thwomp all lit up last month, but today Twitter user @ThemeParkShark captured a video of one in action.
The ¥ 60 billion ($ 559.5 million) expansion will feature an exciting and highly interactive environment where beloved experiences centered on Super Mario characters will come to life. The land is expected to feature a Mario Kart electronic ticket as well as a Yoshi family attraction.
Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan was originally slated to open in the summer of 2020, ahead of the now-delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics. But due to the park’s current recovery from its extended closure COVID-19, Universal Studios Japan has decided that it is in the interest of guests’ safety to delay opening. No new target date was given.
