What did Joe Biden say about an electric Corvette?
Which EV has already been confirmed for the US probably might not arrive at all?
This is our look back at the week in reverse – right here at Green Car Reports – for the week ending on TKTKTK, 2018.
We recommend two major green cars this week – both popular large crossovers, but for completely different lifestyle choices, one all-electric and one that goes without charging ports. We found the 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid, an appealing new mix of Toyota hybrid sensitivities that the brand has already shown in half a dozen other cars. And we finally caught up with the Tesla Model Y and found that it was all that Tesla fans had already suggested it was – a benchmark for many electric cars yet to come.
Cadillac Lyriq concept
GM unveiled the Cadillac Lyriq crossover as the first of many emerging EVs, as the luxury brand plans to go electric mostly by the end of the decade.
Audi is offering the 2021 Audi E-Tron for $ 8,800 less, at the entry point of the lineup, compared to 2019 – due to the introduction of a new Premium trim.
Used Teslas are sold in much less time than any other electric car, concluded a new study that looked at data both before and during the pandemic.
Tesla Cybertruck
Tesla maintains cars and market plans. As CEO Elon Musk recently explained through an interview and tweets, the Tesla Cybertruck has essentially become two different cars – one a ‘North American donkey kicker’, as Musk put it, and the other a smaller Cybertruck for Europe.
And yet, the Kia Soul EV in its current form does not come to the US – even though it has been previously confirmed and EPA-rated. Kia Motors America said plans have not changed – which keeps the model in a holding pattern.
2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS prototype and Vision EQS concept
Mercedes-Benz and CATL have confirmed that the upcoming flagship of Mercedes EQS cells will be used by the Chinese battery supplier.
Two motorists showed us this week how to improve EV-related technology now and in the near future. Jaguar’s involvement in Formula E and I-Pace eTrophy racing has already improved the I-Pace electric SUV in many ways – enabled by the EV-up-upgrade capacity. And Audi wants to place a powerful central computer instead of coordinating all the components – ranging from steering and suspension to regenerative brakes – in its premium cars. The change will make their cars drive more efficiently and better.
Lordstown Endurance
Meanwhile, new EV makers continued to shake off financing and deals. Lordstown Motors, the company that plans to build an electric truck at a former GM plant in Ohio, is seeking an IPO. Fisker is still looking to use Volkswagen’s MEB platform for electric cars as the basis for its upcoming Fisker Ocean crossover; however, negotiations are now on hiatus.
Presidential candidate Joe Biden may or may not have revealed new information about a fully electric Chevy Corvette, but he made it clear that he believes EVs are the right move for the American auto industry.
2017 Volkswagen e-Golf
A program funded by Electrify America and implemented by AAA will offer low-income residents Volkswagen e-Golf electric hatchbacks for an all-inclusive price of approximately $ 11 per day.
A study by the Department of Energy suggests that if EV adoption is strong, the networks of some western U.S. cities may feel the pinch when there is no more effort to make grid upgrades and embrace smart charging.
And this past weekend, we were wondering if electricity from your electric car could serve as a currency for parking in the future. Nissan already offers such a thing, at one very specific exhibition space near its headquarters.
