The premiere of “American Honey” Sasha Lane hits television in the twisted Amazon Prime conspiracy thriller.
Amazon Prime Video has released the first teaser for its upcoming suspense and conspiracy drama “Utopia,” which brings the premiere of “American Honey” Sasha Lane to television and sees the return of Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn after his successful adaptation “Sharp Objects”. HBO’s “Utopia” is an adaptation of the 2013-14 British drama series of the same name. While Flynn wrote the adaptations of her books “Gone Girl” and “Sharp Objects”, “Utopia” marks her first TV script not based on her own material. Flynn previously co-wrote the movie “Widows” with Steve McQueen.
The official synopsis for Amazon Prime Video’s “Utopia” reads: “‘Utopia’ focuses on a group of comic book fans who gather online and rally for their obsession with an apparently fictional comic called ‘Utopia.’ Together Ian (Dan Byrd), Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Grant (Javon “Wanna” Walton) uncover hidden meanings on the pages of ‘Utopia’, predicting threats to humanity They realize that it is not just a conspiracy; they are very real dangers that come to life right now in your world. “
The events of the series are twisted thanks to the character of Lane, Jessica Hyde. Jessica is the central character in the fictional comic “Utopia”. The series also stars John Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie, Rainn Wilson as Dr. Michael Stearns, Farrah Mackenzie as Alice, Christopher Denham as Arby, and Cory Michael Smith as Thomas Christie.
The path to releasing “Utopia” has lasted for years, as Flynn’s American adaptation of the British series was first announced in 2014. At the time, HBO was behind the American version of “Utopia” and Flynn was ready to working on the series with his filmmaker “Gone Girl” David Fincher. Flynn-Fincher’s “Utopia” was killed the following year over budget disputes between Fincher and HBO. Fortunately, Amazon stepped in a few years later to relive the show and give Flynn a second chance. The author wrote all eight episodes of “Utopia” and serves as the showrunner for the series.
A release date for “Utopia” has yet to be announced. Watch the first teaser for the series in the video below, courtesy of Amazon Prime Video.
