Users complain about spam emails when Gmail suffers from filtering problems

GRAMMail users around the world complained that spam messages flooded their inbox over the weekend, as the Google service apparently suffered from a widespread problem with its email filters.

Several Gmail users turned to Twitter and other social media platforms like reddit to convey that they were being bombarded with spam messages.

Google acknowledged the problem to Forbes, saying the spam flaw was actually part of a larger problem that caused Gmail emails to be delayed, both when they were sent and when they were received.

The consequence of this was that “some messages were delayed long enough to lead to delivery without completing all the spam checks.”

Google said, “During this time, scans to filter out the most egregious spam and malware and harmful content remained fully operational.”

The problem was first reported by Android Police.

“Why were the gmail spam filters broken?” posted a user.

“Did the spam filter and gmail category feature completely shut down for someone else? Now everything goes directly to the main inbox, “commented another.

Google said the problem has already been resolved.

Another user posted: “It is a strangely comforting thing that I can only search for ‘gmail’ and Twitter immediately provides me with evidence that yes, others are being hit strangely right now.” (IANS)
