United States Averages 2,600 New Coronavirus Cases Per Hour: Report

The United States is averaging the highest rate of new coronavirus cases in the world, according to a new report. As the country is expected to hit the 4 million case mark on Thursday, a Reuters count found that the United States is averaging more than 2,600 cases every hour, a significant increase from January when the first case was detected.

The United States has seen a rapid increase in infections since January 21, when it took 98 days to reach 1 million cases. According to Reuters, it now only took 16 days for the rate to jump from 3 million to 4 million at a rate of 43 new cases per minute.

The rate of new infections does not appear to be declining globally, with the number of cases in the United States and South America accelerating faster, according to the count. The United States ranks second, just behind Chile, in per capita cases with 120 infections per 10,000 people and is sixth worldwide for the highest deaths per capita with more than 143,000 deaths.

California recorded a high number of daily cases of coronavirus deaths and total cases on Wednesday, according to a report published in The New York Times.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Wednesday that California has the highest number of cases with 400,769. Other states, such as Missouri, North Dakota and West Virginia, reported highs in coronavirus cases on Wednesday, while Alabama, Idaho and Texas reported daily deaths from coronavirus, according to the New York Times database.

INHALED MEDICINES PROMISE IN CORONAVIRUS TREATMENT

Many speculate that the reasons behind the increase in coronavirus cases are due to the increase in available evidence. But according to the newspaper, the increase in cases far outweighs the growth in evidence. The report indicates that the average test conducted across the country has grown 80 percent since June, but the daily number of cases increased 215 percent.
