A new critical documentary, which features interviews with various mental health professionals, states that President Donald Trump is a malignant narcissist.
The new documentary, #Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump, which will be released on September 1, features interviews with mental health professionals who state that the president is unfit for office.
According to CNN, several mental health professionals in the film argue that the president is a malignant narcissist, consisting of paranoia, anti-social personality disorder and sadism.
The American Psychiatric Association states that it is unethical for its members to speculate about the mental health of a public figure they have not personally examined, under the Goldwater administration.
The rule was introduced in 1964, after 1,189 psychiatrists said presidential candidate Barry Goldwater was unsuitable for office.
However, experts interviewed in the film state that psychiatrists have a duty to share their diagnosis if they witness alarming behavior, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
In the film, psychologist John Garnter states that experts do not have to see their patients because “the psychiatric interview is the least reliable method of making a diagnosis.”
He adds: “The ‘Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders’ is based on observable behavioral criteria … If you meet someone, they may lie to you, they may say,’ I never did that …, ‘but if you can actually observe [someone’s] behavior … you would get a much more reliable indicator of how they behaved. “
The film highlights cases of the president showing symptoms of the disruption, drawing attention to Mr Trump’s remarks in recent years, such as’ I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and I would not voters lose. ”
One expert said that “Trump is a sociopath, a sadist, a swindler, a racist, a woman and a sexist,” adding, “I think that’s a problem,” according to CNN.
Proven lies are also used to back up claims for the diagnosis, and its inflation of the size of the crowd at its inauguration is shown as part of the film’s argument.
At one point, veteran sports writer Rick Reilly describes the many different ways the president cheats at golf, adding: “He tells people he’s won club championships where he has not even played in … six or seven [other] times he was the only man to play in the tournament! ”
The experts in the film are not the only ones trying to diagnose Trump, and 37 other mental health professionals speculate about Mr. Trump’s state of mental health in the book, Donald Trump’s Dangerous Case: 37 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Review President, edited by Dr. Bandy X Lee.
In an interview with Ms. Lee for Raw Story earlier this month, Dr. John Zinner, the former head of the Family Therapy Studies Unit at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), claimed that the president suffers from narcissistic personality disorder.
