NEIL LENNON responded to Charlie Nicholas and accused him of being negative about Celtic for YEARS.

Former Hoops idol Nicholas threw a shock blast into his former club’s transfer deals this morning after the summer window closed.

Nicholas claimed that the Scottish champions took the “cheap” option by signing AC Milan left-back Diego Laxalt on loan and suggested that Lennon would be “upset” by the club’s spending, which totaled more than £ 13 million.

He also insisted that Glasgow’s rivals Rangers had the best transfer window when he took aim at Parkhead’s board.

But Hoops boss Lenny, named Scottish Premiership manager of the month for September, told Nicholas not to meddle in club business.

He said: “If we had signed Messi and Ronaldo, Charlie still would have found fault with him.

CHARLIE NICHOLAS Laxalt is a cheap option for Celtic, Lennon will bother with the transfer business and the Rangers did better business

“He has been negative with the club for years.

“Charlie doesn’t think for me, he doesn’t speak for me.”

Celtic managed to keep key stars like Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer, and Lennon added: “We wanted to put the team in order. We brought real quality.

“I am delighted with the strength and depth. We have now preserved all of our core assets and it has been a very good window for us in terms of bringing in players and retaining the players we wanted.”

“I woke up this morning absolutely delighted, delighted with the squad and of course with the signing of Laxalt.

“We came out of the window very strong and we have great depth. We have kept all of our best players and added international quality.”

Writing in his Daily Express column, Nicholas said: “Laxalt, to me, is not an inspiring firm.

“I said Celtic would be cheap in their search for a left back. I knew they wouldn’t spend money on a defender that Neil Lennon has been so patient with.

“I don’t think Lennon was given much help, if I’m honest. He had to work twice as long to get something out of the so-called rich Celts. I imagine he’s going to be pretty upset about this tomorrow.

“I’m sure he will put on a brave face, but I don’t think he has achieved anything close to what he was looking for.”

“Albian Ajeti is going to score goals, but there are still questions in other areas of Celtic.

“The Rangers must be looking at him thinking they got the best of the deals.

“Celtic were a stronger team last season. The main positive for Lennon is that all their main players are staying, although I am not convinced that Olivier Ntcham, Kris Ajer and Tom Rogic are happy.”
