Once again, the internet is full of conspiracy theories and rumors about the Xbox Series X overheating, but now that consumers have their hands on the console, this time we have some dubious video footage claiming the new Xbox is smoking. (literally) hot. At least two videos appear to show “smoke” rising from the top of the Xbox Series X, and they are now being widely shared on the Internet.
Although the videos remain unverified, the footage alone was enough to alarm people, with many on Reddit and Twitter sharing the videos with messages of concern. But others pointed out that the smoke looked similar to the vapor produced by a vape or e-cigarette, and someone has now taken the theory a step further with a demonstration.
The Xbox news account Xbox Studio decided to test vaping theory for themselves and managed to achieve a similar effect by blowing steam on the underside of the Xbox Series X, then being sucked into the top of the console. Those who created the original videos claimed their footage was real since their Xbox had been “turned off” – but the Xbox News video shows that air is still circulating after the power light goes out. Long enough to create a fake Xbox smoking video, at least.
TIRED of the FAKE NEWS.

Microsoft is well aware of the smoke videos, and Xbox Poland responded to one of the accounts. I asked Xbox for a comment on the images and received the following statement from a Microsoft representative:
“We take all product safety reports very seriously and our products meet or exceed industry standards. We are in the process of investigating further.”
The first round of Xbox overheating rumors began when some critics claimed that the console was a bit “warm,” and it seems the new smoke videos are an extension of this idea. Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry carried out thermal tests on the Xbox Series X and found that while it was warmer than the consoles he had previously tested (peaking at 62 ° C at the top), this could be explained by the absolute power of the new Xbox. – and noticed that the power consumption (210 watts) was much lower than what you would expect from a high-end PC.
“As with any console, you really need to make sure the hot air can escape, so keeping the X Series indoors is not a good idea,” Leadbetter said of the heat exhaust.
Well, from all of this, I suppose we know that you can technically vape or smoke through an Xbox Series X, although I wouldn’t recommend it for the sake of your console’s health. Now that would really be a hot box.
