Xbox Series X Quick Summary works sometimes, always • Eurogamer.net

When Quick Resume works on Xbox Series X, the effect is almost magical. A game you were playing hours, maybe days ago, comes to life in seconds, even if you were just playing something else.

You also know when it is about to happen. At the top right of the screen, a small label appears. “QUICK SUMMARY”, the label boasts. But what he’s really saying is … “JUST LOOK AT HOW FAST IT IS”. You can not. The game is already loaded.

It’s really exhilarating, but here’s the thing: it doesn’t always happen. If Paul Rudd’s cologne works 60 percent of the time, all the time, Quick Resume just feels a little better than that.

So what’s going on? Well, despite working with “thousands of games,” Xbox technical executive Jason Ronald said the feature had been “temporarily disabled” for some games that were experiencing problems. And even then, there are limits to the number of games that can be quickly resumed at any time.

It is a brilliant feature, although I have experienced some issues even in games where it is enabled. Take Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, for example, which certainly supports Quick Resume but doesn’t seem to fully wake up at times. I noticed that online services don’t always reconnect (which, although I rarely use them, gives me annoying warning messages that the services haven’t connected anyway).

How often has Quick Resume done the work for you?

Do the PS5 and Xbox Series X launch lineups matter?
