Wrecked cars, canceled buses and damaged property as the night of shenanigans spreads through the chaos in Merseyside

People suffered another year of misery on Mischief Night as youth gangs caused trouble in Merseyside, including incidents of criminal damage and other riots.

The youthful behavior occurred despite strict Level 3 lockdown restrictions, and warnings from police that there would be additional patrols and a “quick response” if someone stepped out of line.

The problems started early Friday night when people reported that large youth gangs were causing trouble in Merseyside.

Property was damaged and many were distressed by the behavior that affected people who went about their business.

An elderly couple was reportedly left crying after a gang of thugs wrecked their car in Wirral.

Around 10 cars are believed to have been attacked on George Road in Hoylake on Friday night.

In Wallasey, several other cars were also damaged, and a man posted a photo of his broken windshield asking parents if they knew where their children are.

On Twitter, Merseyside police confirmed that a group of children had been throwing eggs at the gates of the ASDA on Grange Road in Birkenhead.

Another man said that around eight youths on bicycles had pushed his disabled neighbor’s car on Park Road North, Birkenhead.

In another Facebook group, a woman reported that a gang of children on Rice Lane threw fireworks at a car carrying a small baby.

When police arrived to disperse them, the gang also threw fireworks at the officers.

In St Helens, police said they had received numerous reports of youths causing disturbances in the area.

Public transportation was also disrupted in many areas with Stagecoach and Arriva tweeting to say they would avoid certain areas for the rest of the night.

Liverpool 20/21 service on Stagecoach was diverted along Valley Road at Anfield due to vandalism.

Service 19 was also canceled at Moorgate due to vandalism.

Arriva North West tweeted to say that the routes would not serve around Birkenehad Park for the remainder of the night due to antisocial behavior and damaged buses.

Elsewhere, a man was arrested after drugs and fireworks were found when police raided a home in Rock Ferry, Wirral.

The 22-year-old was arrested when officers opened the door of a house on King Street at 4 p.m. Friday and discovered cannabis and alleged cocaine.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply class A and B drugs and conspiracy to commit criminal damages.

He has been taken to a police station for questioning.
