Women beaten and head butted before arrest video was shared thousands of times

Two women were brutally attacked minutes before a video of an arrested man was captured and later shared on Facebook.

The images were quickly posted on social media after the arrest, which took place in Dovecot on Monday, November 30.

A spokesman for the force has now confirmed that the arrest was related to an attack on two women who suffered head injuries shortly after 3:00 p.m.

According to Merseyside Police, officers were called to Thomas Lane in Knotty Ash to report that a man had struck a woman in her 60s on the head.

Another woman, in her 30s, had also been hit with a bottle and hit on the head by the same man.

The attacker left the house and threw a bottle at a car that was parked outside.

A short time later, two police officers spotted a man on Dovecot Avenue acting aggressively.

While trying to arrest the man, witnesses videotaped the incident and posted it online.

The 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and two counts of assault on a police officer.

In a statement, a Merseyside police spokesman said: “We arrested a man on suspicion of assault after attending a domestic incident at Knotty Ash on Monday afternoon (December 1).

“We were called to Thomas Lane, Knotty Ash around 3:15 PM for a report that a woman in her 60s had been hit on the head and a woman in her 30s had been hit with a bottle and hit on the head by a man at the address.

“It was later reported that the man threw a bottle at a car outside.

“Officers attended and the victim in his 30s was located with a head injury and taken to hospital for treatment. She has since been discharged.

“Following investigations in the local area, a man was located on Dovecot Avenue, Dovecot and after being seen by officers acting aggressively, he was detained.

“A 48-year-old man from Knotty Ash was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and two counts of assault on a police officer.

“Investigations into the incident are ongoing.”
