Police are investigating after the body of a woman was found in a suitcase at a West London shelter.
Officers were called to the Pay and Sleep shelter in The Crescent, Southall, just before 3 p.m. Friday after the body was found.
Metropolitan police said in a statement about the discovery that the death was being treated as inexplicable and investigations continued to identify the woman.
No arrests had been made and officers remained at the scene, police said.
A painter from the shelter discovered the body, two weeks after neighbors reported a “foul odor,” according to a report in the Daily Mail.
A resident of the shelter, named Lisa, said the woman’s boyfriend disappeared after the incident.
“She lived upstairs. One of the other Poles told us that he had gone to the Victoria bus station, ”he said.
“No one could get hold of it, but now we know why. Her boyfriend has disappeared because she had someone living in the room with her. We don’t know where it is ”.
Lisa described the woman as “a lovely girl” who “kept herself to herself”.
Another resident, Martin, said he had known the woman for about five years when she lived in Acton and that they had been good friends.
“We had similar friends. Good girl, very nice and friendly, ”he said. “A very good person.”
Police said a post-mortem examination would be conducted at the Fulham morgue on Saturday, adding that officers would not further discuss the circumstances of the discovery at this stage.
