A woman fell 115 feet to her death as she posed near the edge of a cliff for a photo to celebrate the end of a coronavirus blockade.
Olesya Suspitsyna, 31, originally from Kazakhstan, was killed on Sunday in a popular Duden park in the city of Antalya, Turkey.
She and a friend reportedly went for a walk around the site, known for its spectacular scenery and waterfalls, after the end of an order to stay home in the city.
Turkey now has more than 115,000 cases of the coronavirus, the seventh highest in the world, and has recorded 3, or 81 deaths.
Measures introduced to stop its spread have included curfews, the mandatory use of face masks and restrictions on movement between different regions.
During the walk, Oleysa climbed a security fence to pose for a photograph with the park’s waterfalls in the background.
While posing for the photo, he slipped on the grass and fell 115 feet (35 meters) down the cliff.
Oleysa’s friend called the emergency services and then her body was taken out of the water by local response personnel, but it could not be revived.
His relatives told local media that the Turkish police had investigated the case and concluded that it was an accident.
Olesya had lived in Antalya while working as a tour guide for the past five years.
Captioning an image posted on his Instagram, he wrote: “I will always admire the beauty of Turkish nature. This is my paradise.”
Speaking to the Kazakh media, a relative said: “Olesya was an intelligent and happy person. She set goals and made them happen. ”
Many friends also turned to social media to express their sadness at his death.
“Olesya always loved the sea and dreamed of living in Turkey,” wrote one.
“She made her dream come true.
“More than anything, he loved the feeling of freedom.
“This is an irreparable loss. My heart is broken.”
Another added: “[Olesya] He always said that he was happy to live in this city. It was his place in the world. “
Olesya’s body will be transported from Turkey to Kazakhstan on Saturday, and will be buried in her hometown of Kostanay.
