A woman died after being found outside a primary school with serious injuries.
Emergency services were called to Dereham Crescent, in Fazakerley, around 9 am Tuesday after neighbors discovered her on the street.
The woman, in her 60s, was rushed to hospital for treatment, but sadly died of her injuries shortly thereafter.
A large police scene was set up on the highway and on Formosa Drive, which runs in front of Fazakerley Elementary School.
Strings were placed near the school gates so that police and forensic officers could carry out their investigation.
Shortly after noon, the principal contacted the parents and guardians of the students at the school to inform them of the “serious incident” and what to do when picking them up.
In the message, Ms. Bennett said: “Due to a serious incident that has occurred within our community this morning, we are unable to open our front door at the end of the school day.
“As directed by the Merseyside Police, we ask that you pick up your child at the baby gate, outside the main entrance, at the following times.
“We are very sorry for this and I hope you understand that this is completely out of our control.
“If you have other children at our school, you can pick them up at the same time today.”
The school was not related to the incident in any way.
People in the area have already begun to leave moving floral tributes near the site, as neighbors described the incident as “tragic.”
The woman is believed to have lived near where she was found injured and her death is being treated as inexplicable by police.
Merseyside police confirmed the news in a statement Tuesday night, explaining that the woman’s relatives had been informed.
A spokesman for the force said: “We can confirm that detectives are investigating the unexplained death of a woman in Fazakerley today, Tuesday, September 8.”
“At around 9 am, officers were called to Dereham Crescent to report that a woman in her 60s had been found with serious injuries.
“She was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where unfortunately she was declared dead shortly after.

“Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances, and his death is currently treated as unexplained.”
“His closest relatives have been informed and an autopsy will be carried out.”
