Wolves have blocked their players from going to the supermarket in an attempt to reduce their risk of contracting coronavirus.

As infection rates rose, Liverpool and Everton are now the only clubs in the Premier League allowed fans to enter their home games.

The Premier League is retesting twice a week in an effort to ensure that games are not postponed on a more regular basis.

“It’s about protecting ourselves,” said Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

“From the beginning of the pandemic, our kitchen staff put together a big box of the basics we need and during the height of the pandemic, everyone had it.

“When it started to improve, we said, ‘Okay, now you can go and do your own shopping.’ But now the levels are going up and there is the new variation that worries everyone, we started doing it again, so the players and their families don’t go to supermarkets.

“It’s about protecting ourselves. There are so many people who take care of us.”

Wolves’ next Premier League game will be at home to Tottenham on Sunday (start at 19:15 GMT).
