WILSON !!
Callum wilsonThe ruthless finale (£ 6.5 million) helped him pass another audition for Newcastle’s favorable matches in a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Friday night.
The former Bournemouth striker contributed a late goal and an assist, his ninth and tenth attack return of the campaign, before facing the three newly promoted teams in the next four Gameweeks.
Wilson’s third double-digit loot since Gameweek 4 is the most of any Fantasy Premier League striker at the time (as of this writing) and takes his points per game in 2020/21 to a healthy 7.5.
The fact that he came out of Gameweek 10’s first game with 12 points highlights how efficient Wilson has been this season.
With no player on the Selhurst Park court playing more than two key passes each Friday, Friday’s evening entertainment didn’t have much creativity.
In fact, Wilson had largely played the supporting role of the strike partner. Joelinton (£ 5.7 million) in terms of goal attempts, waiting for most of the match before a clear opportunity presented itself.
It is not the first time this season, the moment he arrived, after a good connection with Joelinton, Wilson put the ball under Vicente Guaita (£ 5.0 million) and to the net fund.
“We have a scorer. When it’s over, we all say “goal.” He’s off to a really good start and he and Joe today were a handful for any defense. “- Steve Bruce
“Wilson is a scorer. As a child, a team player, I am delighted for him. He and Joe (linton) were a handful today. “- Steve Bruce
Considering that Wilson continues to demonstrate that he does not require constant service to make large FPL casts, the fact that Aston Villa (away), West Bromwich Albion (home), Leeds (away) and Fulham (home) are his next four opponents is really encouraging. .
And if Steve Bruce can get Allan Saint-Maximin (£ 5.3 million) back in top form, that can only boost Newcastle’s number 13 in terms of goal threat.
“Allan Saint-Maximin had a calf injury and we will see how bad he is in the next few days.” – Steve Bruce
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£ 7.9 million) undergoing a fixed turn in Gameweek 12, Wilson has already been placed at the top of the list of possible replacements for the Everton forward.
FRONT SCHLUPP
Crystal Palace has now shut out in both games played without Wilfried zaha (£ 7.3 million) this season.
The importance of the Ivory Coast international to the Eagles is well documented, but it was laid bare once again as they struggled to offer up a lot of threat against Newcastle, who managed only their second clean sheet since Gameweek 1 on Friday night.
“All those people who claim we can’t win without Zaha, it’s another notch on the belt. I would be very frustrated if it were another of the outfield players and unfortunately we cannot deny the fact. He couldn’t play, and at some point we have to accept that he can’t get us out of a hole in every game. “- Roy Hodgson
Roy Hodgson’s last solution to Zaha’s absence was to implement Jeffrey Schlupp (£ 5.4 million) upfront next door Jordan ayew (£ 5.7 million), having tested it there during preseason.
While Crystal Palace was predictably flat, with the possible exception of Eberechi Eze (£ 5.8 million), it must be said that his best chance of the game fell to Schlupp.
During the first half, the former Leicester City player was played in goal with a woeful stray ball from Wilson. He pounced on Karl Darlow (£ 5.0 million) by ignoring the defensive pressure of Federico Fernandez (£ 4.9m) forcing an impressive stop to stop a given target.
“We know what Jeffrey Schlupp can do. We know its quality. He has had many absences due to injury but we know that when he is fit, we have a quality player. He had a good threat tonight, but we didn’t do enough to provide him with ammunition. “- Roy Hodgson
Even though Schlupp’s role in Friday’s loss triggered the horn out of position, he has a lot of work to do to convince Fantasy managers that it is worth a try.
Zaha is likely to fight for a start against West Bromwich Albion at Gameweek 11 and could well replace him at Palace XI. However, based on what we saw of Schlupp against Newcastle, if Hodgson removed Ayew from the team to facilitate Zaha’s return, then his Fantasy credentials will carry a lot more weight.
DISTAL PALACE
By conceding two goals against Newcastle on Friday night, Crystal Palace’s defenders continue to highlight how unreliable they are this season.
Previously, a side that Fantasy managers could rely on for a clean sheet, Hodgson’s men have been anything but secretive in 2020/21.
They are still without a clean sheet since their matchday win over Southampton, which was their only shutout in their last 18 Premier League matches.
Hodgson made some changes regarding the loss at Burnley, recalling Gary Cahill (£ 4.5 million) to play alongside Scott then (£ 4.4 million) in center defense, pushing Cheikhou Kouyaté (£ 5.0m) back to central midfield at the expense of Jairo Riedewald (4.4 million pounds).
Despite marginally controlling possession, Palace lost shot count and, more importantly, lost focus twice in the final stages, not for the first time this season. The owners of their defenders will recall losing a clean sheet at the end to Brighton (Gameweek 5), Fulham (Gameweek 6) and now Newcastle.
“We let in two goals today, one in the 86th minute and one in injury time. I don’t know if the performance would suggest that we weren’t able to keep a clean sheet. I think most people would have thought we were heading 0-0. My biggest concern is that the two games in which we have been dominant do not seem to have scored ”. – Roy Hodgson
Such an exhibition is likely to end any long-term interest in Patrick van Aanholt (£ 5.4 million) considering that next weekend’s trip to West Bromwich Albion is followed by matches against Spurs (home), West Ham (away) and Liverpool (home).
The left-back continues to voluntarily participate in Palace’s attacks, reaching out to help Michy Batshuayi (£ 5.8 million) on Friday night, but paying £ 5.4 million for a defender who can’t keep a clean sheet is probably too much to ask in this case.
Crystal Palace XI (4-4-2): Guaita; van Aanholt, Dann, Cahill, Clyne; Eze, McArthur (Batshuayi 82 ′), Kouyaté, Townsend (Riedewald 67 ′); Schlupp, Ayew (Benteke 66 ′).
Newcastle United XI (4-4-2): Darlow; Lewis, Clark, Fernández, Manquillo; Almirón (Ritchie 68 ′), S Longstaff, Shelvey, Hendrick; Wilson, Joelinton (Schär 90 + 3 ‘).
