An electrical failure on a double-decker bus caused it to catch fire on its way back to the depot.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident this morning around 7.18 am today (Thursday, September 10).
When the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service arrived, firefighters reported that the bus was “well lit” on Bypass Road, Asfordby, near Melton.
Leicestershire Police were called in to help with traffic management, with queues stretching to Melton and the A46.
Fortunately, there were no passengers present and only the driver was on board.
He managed to disembark safely after noticing that the rear seats were on fire while still driving.
Two machines from the Melton Fire Station successfully extinguished the fire shortly after 8 a.m. M.

An investigation determined that the fire was started by an electrical fault in the engine compartment, which is located at the rear of the vehicle.
Vehicle images show major damage with shattered windows and the rear of the lower deck completely charred.
The road reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
