Peter Sawkins has been crowned the winner of the Great British Bake Off 2020, making him the youngest champion in the series.
The 20-year-old beat out fellow finalists Dave Friday and Laura Adlington for the trophy in the famous baking tent.
It was a tense finale filmed amid the UK heat wave, with temperatures rising to around 35 ° C throughout the latest series, filmed amid the pandemic and coronavirus shutdown.
Of the 12 bakers who accepted the challenge, it was Peter who was victorious.
Totally shocked by his victory, he confessed that it is something he has wanted since he was a child.
He said, “I can’t believe I’m here, I can’t believe I got on the show, and I can’t believe the show happened.
“This is going to be a really important chapter in my life, and what a way to end.”
Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood chose their winner after a series of huge tasks, one of which left Laura in tears.
They had been given three more tasks to show why they should be the winners, and it became the “closest final they have ever had to judge.”
First there was the task of baking the perfect slice of custard, combining custard and puff pastry.
Second, the bakers were technically challenged and asked to make a Walnut Whirl.
His last challenge on the show, the Showstopper, was the chance to show off his skills with a dessert tower of his choice.
It was Peter who won them, as he was crowned the youngest Bake Off winner.
Paul said: “Peter should be exceptionally proud. He is the youngest winner we have ever had and the first Scottish winner.”
Prue added, “You know I’m terribly proud of Peter and I feel like he’s my grandson?
“He’s such a nice guy and he’s so eager to learn that he can’t not like him.”
Winner Peter will appear on Jo Brand’s spin-off, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, on Friday, November 27 at 8:00 pm on Channel 4.
